Armed conflict at learning center
Learning centers in northern Nigeria have become frequent targets for militant organizations

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students in an attack on a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, according to police.

The gang of attackers invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on the beginning of the work week, police confirmed.

The armed individuals "confronted officers on duty in a firefight" before scaling the perimeter fence and taking the pupils captive from their dormitory, according to a statement.

One member of staff was killed while trying to protect the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now being treated medically.

Witnesses reported a sizeable number of assailants, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to cause panic.

Local residents informed journalists that the attackers afterwards forced a number of girls into nearby bushland.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "supplementary tactical squads, in coordination with armed forces and community security teams" to the area.

A organized locating and saving mission is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and potential getaway paths.

In the last several years, educational institutions in Nigeria's north have regularly come under attack for weapon-carrying factions, who frequently execute kidnappings to request monetary settlements or leverage deals with the government.

The assault in Kebbi State underscores the continuing safety emergency troubling the locality, resulting in households in Maga in a state of fearful exhaustion as they anticipate and pray for their children's secure homecoming.

Security crisis in Nigeria's northern territories has worsened considerably in the last several months, with learning centers suffering the most of the unrest.
