Minister Says MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified information in all cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

In a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He explained that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the growing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This broader security environment highlights the significance of strong measures and caution in all aspects of government activities, including transport usage to communication habits.
