Even though embarking on their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. This match offered a platform for several Palace's fringe talent to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
